Dear UFCW member,
Starting September 3rd and ending September 10th, we will be hosting membership vote meetings to discuss Kroger’s so-called “Last, Best, and Final” offer and allow you and all our members to vote whether to accept or reject it. Please attend, and we will address any questions or concerns.
As you know, negotiations with Kroger have been going on for over a year with Kroger refusing to provide you the benefits you deserve or the wages you have earned. Instead, on August 19 and October 14 of 2020, Kroger came up with their so-called “Last, Best, and Final” offers for clerk and meat workers, choosing the following anti-worker, anti-family actions:
- Eliminate Hazard Pay: Eliminate your hazard pay in the middle of a pandemic
- Cut Your Wage Growth: Implement an entirely new wage system, making it almost impossible to move up wage levels
- Increase Healthcare Costs: Force workers off of their union healthcare and onto a more expensive company-controlled plan, raising costs for critical things like prescriptions and doctor’s visits
Despite these bad offers, Kroger took the unprecedented step of forcing it into effect, without your say and without your vote. To be clear, this is wrong and there is no excuse given the billions in profit this company has made since the pandemic began.
Kroger can do more. You deserve better.
After months of pushing for Kroger to do the right thing— including filing federal charges against Kroger with the National Labor Relations Board and working with our other Locals across the South to come up with reasonable solutions and counter proposals— it is time to take a clear stand and vote on Kroger’s Last, WORST, and Final offer.
