*** URGENT MESSAGE: Strike Vote Notice for Kroger Houston Members***

Dear Kroger Houston member,

In September, Kroger Houston members voted to officially reject the company’s so-called “Last, Best, and Final” offer.

Since then, Kroger has refused to meet with your bargaining committee and refuses to discuss or offer a contract that provides you with better wages and benefits, and protects you on your job.

Given Kroger’s unwillingness to do what is right, your union will be holding Strike Votes at all Kroger Houston locations between November 9th – 14th, 2021 from 6AM – 2PM. Your voting location outside of your store will be marked with Flags and Voting Signs.

While a strike is always a last resort, Kroger’s continuous refusal to bargain in good faith has now forced the need for a strike vote.

Unlike Kroger, we believe you deserve to know the truth about their “Last, Best, and Final” offer and how Kroger’s stubborn actions have impacted you and your family. Here are the facts:

The Facts About Kroger’s Proposal

  • Lowering Wage Increases: When Kroger implemented their offer, they forced into effect a completely new wage system that essentially freezes workers inside wage tiers, making it harder to advance to the next tier, and virtually impossible to achieve top rate. Not to mention, Kroger implemented wage increases that are far below what your bargaining committee was negotiating for and far below what you deserve.
  • Limiting Your Opportunity: Kroger has unilaterally changed daily overtime, cutting back on overtime pay to workers who put in the longest hours to cover the store’s busiest shifts, and is looking to drastically cut full-time positions in several stores. This can significantly reduce your earnings and take-home pay.
  • Backdoor Pay Cuts for Health Care Participants: Last year, Kroger forced all Houston South Central participants into their newly formed, company-controlled insurance plan, without your input or vote, which has increased prescription costs and deductibles.
  • Broad Workplace Cuts and Forced Changes: Not to mention, Kroger eliminated hero pay in the middle of a deadly pandemic; cut vacation weeks from 6 to 3 for part timers hired on or after 1/1/21; and implemented crossover language that allows the company to reduce hours and hire less people for higher paying positions.

It is because of this, that your union, UFCW Local 455, strongly encourages you to vote to REJECT the contract proposal and IN FAVOR OF A STRIKE.

Send a clear message to Kroger that you have earned and deserve better.

Please remember you MUST be a member to vote and you may ONLY vote ONCE!

Sincerely,

Brandon Hopkins

UFCW Local 455 President
