All Nan Ya Plastics Members,
Here’s what you need to know about the Company’s Last, Best ,and Final Offer and how it affects you!
The Local has been bargaining your contract since June of 2025 on extension and pushing for an offer for employees to vote. The Company spent months proposing low wage offers and proposing that workers who cover dependents and spouses on the wellness plans begin paying for health insurance. As you all know, you and your co-workers on the wellness plans at Nan Ya have enjoyed not paying for health insurance for over 20 years as a part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
At the end of August 2026, the Company finally presented a stronger wage proposal, but tied it to significant changes to retirement benefits and increased health insurance costs. Specifically, the Company proposed eliminating the pension from the CBA and moving the current pension contributions into a new 401(k) plan for all employees. The Company withdrew the healthcare increase proposal at the end of August of 2026 and presented its Last, Best, and Final offer on October 16, 2026.
Here are the issues with the Company’s Final Offer:
Pension- There are several concerns with this proposal. Historically, traditional pension plans have provided workers with greater retirement security and protections than 401(k) plans. Additionally, the proposal provides no increase in contributions for employees with 15 or more years of service, failing to recognize their years of commitment and service to the Company. Furthermore, the timing of this proposal does not give the Union adequate time to fully review and consider the long-term effects of such a significant change to your retirement benefits.
Wages- The Company proposed wage increases similar to the previous Tentative Agreement but is not offering any other improvement to go along with them and are attaching those wages to giving up your pension.
The Local asked the Company to remove the pension proposal and just offer the wage increases that they had proposed, but the Company said, no. The Local asked the Company to add a benefit improvement for senior employees to go along with the pension change, but the Company said, no. For those reasons and the issues listed above, the Local is recommending that the membership rejects the Company’s Last, Best, and Final Offer, and allows the bargaining parties to continue bargaining for a settlement that rewards your hard work. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your Union representatives Mickey Hampton at 713-907-5121, Daryl Hurst at 281-900-9237, or your Union stewards Tiffany Bazille and Felix Belona. Details about voting will be released soon.
