Dear Kroger Brothers & Sisters,
I write to all of you today to make our Kroger membership aware of the fact that Kroger in Virginia is continuing its years-long anti-union campaign by not recognizing the members in that Local’s right to have a Union and collectively bargain for a stronger future. I ask all of our members to call on Kroger to end its anti-union campaign in Virginia!
With Kroger recently closing 8 stores in Local 455 jurisdiction, several department closures, and other actions that have led to hour rollbacks, wage cuts, and other workplace erosions, Kroger’s attempt to operate non-union stores is another way of the Company choosing to erode the jobs and benefits we have always loved and cared about. The jobs that take care of our families.
Kroger’s anti-union campaign is not about money; it is about eliminating workers’ voices. Does that sound familiar to what we have been through in the past several years together with Kroger in our own Local Union? All of our members working in Texas & Louisiana have a stake in this fight. Your Local Union has sent a letter to the Company calling on them to end their anti-union campaign and be fair to the Virginia workers. Today it is workers in Virginia; tomorrow it could be workers in Texas & Louisiana! We must remain vigilant and do our part in holding the Company accountable and be supportive of our fellow members. The attached page summarizes the background information on Local 400 and the Company’s anti-worker agenda in Virginia and ways our members can help!
We are one Union with one voice, and we can make a difference if we work together! Thank you for your support and for what you do serving our communities!
In Solidarity,
W. Brandon Hopkins
President
