Dear Sisters, Brothers, and Siblings,
On Sunday, March 8, we recognize International Women’s Day, a global celebration of women’s achievements and a call to continue advancing equity and opportunity in our union, workplaces, and communities. The day has its roots in the early 20th century organizing of women workers, who demanded fair wages, safer working conditions, and the right to have a voice on the job. Their courage and determination helped shape the movement for workers’ rights that continues to guide our work today.
That same spirit of solidarity lives on here at the UFCW.
Across our workplaces, women are stepping up and leading, organizing their co-workers, negotiating strong contracts, mentoring the next generation of leaders, and fighting every day for dignity and respect on the job. Their leadership makes our union stronger and helps build a better future for working families everywhere.
International Women’s Day also falls during Women’s History Month. This year’s theme, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” reflects exactly what we see across our union: women driving change, strengthening our movement, and helping to secure opportunities for the generations that will follow.
In Solidarity,
Milton Jones, UFCW International President &
W. Brandon Hopkins, UFCW Local 455 President
