All members at Ft. Sam Houston & Lackland AFB Barbers/Beauty shops:
Your Local Union is reaching out today to update you on the status of your current contracts with Gino Morena Enterprises (GME). The Local began bargaining with GME in late 2022/early 2023 on the Lackland AFB Barbers contract. When GME first took over from the Jershan Company, GME cut the barbers commission percentage by 3%, in violation of the contract. Your Local Union filed a grievance and ultimately was able to secure retroactivity for the barbers in early 2023. After several more months of bargaining, the Company presented the Local with a Last, Best, and Final Offer (LBFO) that did not represent a fair offer to the hardworking barbers at Lackland. The Lackland Barbers voted to reject the Company’s offer, and Your Local Union tried to continue to bargain with the Company, but the Company refused and unilaterally implemented the rejected offer. As it stands today, the Lackland Barbers commission is at 50%, a figure that was not represented in the Company’s LBFO.
GME was subsequently awarded the contracts for Lackland Beauty, Ft Sam Barbers, and Ft Sam Beauty in December of 2024. Your Local Union began negotiating the Ft Sam Barbers contract, which expired 9/1/25, but is currently on an extension, with the Company. After only a few meetings, it was clear that the company was not committed to negotiate increases, but to only offer concessionary commission rates for the Barbers. As it stands today, the company’s offer is to cut the barbers overall commission to 54.75% from the current commission of 59% and only give the barbers an increase based on the difference in price of any future haircut increase, while simultaneously cutting the commission percentage each time a haircut price increase goes into effect.
GME has proposed no commission increases for the life of the contract for the Lackland Beauty and Ft Sam Beauty contracts. The Company is proposing to keep these contracts at the current Commission of 59%.
The Local has attempted to coordinate the bargaining for these contracts together, for efficiency and so that no group gets left behind, but the company has objected to those efforts all along the way! All of you Barbers and Beauticians continue to provide exceptional service to our men and women in uniform, and their families, and you deserve to be rewarded too.
We will be holding special called meetings in each respective unit soon and we need all Barbers & Beauticians in attendance. It’s very important now more than ever to stick together! Together we can and will make Gino Morena Enterprises a better company to work for.
In Solidarity,
Your Lackland Barbers, Lackland Beauty, Ft. Sam Houston Barbers, and Ft. Sam Houston Beauty Bargaining Committee and your Local Union President Brandon Hopkins.
